DataLase Case Study
DataLase was a venture capital backed start-up company seeking commercialisation of its colour change pigment technology for the print and packaging industry. It required complete outsourced creative, design and marketing support to transition the company from start-up status to industry wide recognition, thereby attracting further investment.
The brief was simple – to reposition the company as a leader in the digital print industry and for the target audience to understand the high value of its technology proposition.
The initial need was for branding development, promotional tools and web services. The ongoing relationship sees PHD Design and PHD Marketing providing all graphic design and branding requirements, alongside a complete outsourcing of all PR & digital campaign work.
DataLase was at a critical time in its business evolution – a small high tech company needing to elevate its status in a large market and demonstrate the unique, patented capability of its colour change technology. With design requirements evolving at a rapid pace DataLase needed to rely on our reactive skills, confident that our ideas and solutions could meet demand.
PHD-D designed and developed a contemporary website based around core markets, developed icons to represent the business strategy and created a broad set of sales and promotional tools to lift the image of the business. This was all backed by comprehensive, adaptable brand guidelines to help manage the business as it grew.
The term ‘Inline Digital Printing’ was developed to enable the target audience to understand the technology and a number of videos were developed to demonstrate the solution in action. These were delivered alongside the PHD designed DataLase launch at DRUPA 2016, the largest printing exhibition in the world.
Global leader SATO GROUP now owns DataLase having bought the company in 2016 for over £50M; an outstanding success story directly attributable to much of the work PHD completed in 2015 and 2016 to support the organisation.
